Ndokwa diocese holds confirmation service
By Cordelia Olise
The Anglican Bishop of Ndokwa Diocese Rt Revd Festus Uzorka Nwafili conducted his first Episcopal service of admission and confirmation of Anglican faithfuls at Cathedral Church of Christ Obiaruku .
The bishop in his sermon titled ” SPIRITUAL EMPOWERMENT,’ took his text from the book of Acts chapter 19. Rt Revd Nwafili urged the congregation, especially those who were to be Confirmed to be prepared to receive the Holy Spirit. He noted that it was possible for one to know and believe in Christ yet has not received the holy Spirit as recorded in Acts 19 vs 2.
Narrating further, His lordship informed the congregation that there is always evidence when one receives the holy spirit, adding that when Paul had laid hands on the people as illustrated in the bible, the holy Spirit came upon them and they spoke with tongues and prophesied, Acts 19 vs 6.
Furthermore, the Bishop emphasized that God has been empowering people from the old testament days for greatness. He made mention of Elijah whom the holy Spirit empowered that he outran the Chariot of King Ahab (1king 18 vs 46) and Samson who tore a lion apart with his hands (judges 14 vs 6).
The Bishop also explained that there is evidence when the holy Spirit has departed from a person. He made reference to Samson in the book of Judges 16.
In Conclusion, Rt Revd Nwafili charged those to be Confirmed to prepare their mind for the reception of the holy Spirit, that the holy Spirit alone can empower them to do great and mighty works, and without the holy Spirit, the evils and wickedness of this world will eventually overwhelm them, He stated.
