Imo commissioner of police redeploys DPO of Orji police station following escape of rape suspect
“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has directed the immediate redeployment of the Orji Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Udom Godwin, to the command headquarters in Owerri on standby. This decision comes in response to allegations of Conspiracy, Aiding and Abetting in the escape of Ihee Andrewa, a 30-year-old suspected serial rapist from Ahiazu Mbaise, who was detained at the Orji Police Division.
Earlier reports from LIB highlighted that two out of three suspects accused of gang-raping a 20-year-old girl were arrested and held at the Orji police division. Subsequently, on Monday, November 27, the police confirmed the escape of one of the suspects, Ihee Henry.
A statement from the command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, disclosed that CSP Udom Godwin and other officers associated with the division in connection to the case have received an official query. The query addresses charges of serious dereliction of duty, discreditable conduct, lack of supervision, failure to send a situation report, disobedience to lawful orders, and acts of sabotage and unbecoming conduct of a public officer.
Furthermore, CP Aboki Danjuma has mandated the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (DCSCIID) to conduct a thorough investigation. The aim is to ensure that all suspects involved in the alleged rape case of a 20-year-old lady in Orji are arrested and made to face the full consequences of the law. The DPO and other officers implicated in the case are also undergoing investigation and will face appropriate sanctions if found complicit.
Meanwhile, CSP Sabo BABA, an experienced police officer, has been deployed to assume the role of DPO in Orji.”
