Why we are not welcoming 27 defected PDP Lawmakers to APC – Factional Rivers APC Chairman
Factional Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State, Nigeria, Chief Emeka Beke has expressed reluctance in accepting the 27 lawmakers who defected from PDP to his Party, APC with open arms.
Beke who was speaking yesterday night at Arise Television programme, Prime Time wondered why the Lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly who are loyalists of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Nwike were dumping PDP to APC when Nwike sometime ago vowed never to cross over to APC in his life.
Beke is believed to be a strong ally of Rotimi Amaechi in power tussle with Nwike.
Said he “Nwike once said APC is cancer that he would rather go to where there is malaria than to go to APC where they have cancer.
“Today, he is coming to the party he said has cancer. Who is sure that he is not coming into the party to destroy the party.
“He has not joined the party he is already creating a faction in the party. If you are coming to a new political party and you have genuine intentions no problem. I led the leadership of the party as Chairman no crisis and as soon as he (Nwike) was made FCT Minister what happened he created faction so if he comes in, he will destroy the party.
“Certainly, he will destroy the house we have built for years. People don’t have character. If he has character I expect him not to come to APC”.
Asked what was his opinion on whether the defected lawmakers should lose their seats as being canvassed in some quarters, Beke nodded in the affirmative.
According to him “when David Umahi left the People’s Democratic Party to All Progressives Congress the same Wike that was shouting that he should lose his seat as Governor”.
Beke also extended his grievances to the leadership of the APC at the national level.
Said he, “people forget where they are coming from. The same national chairman we elected in our NEC meeting same person was to Rivers to inaugurate this party he was attacked in Rivers State. Unfortunately he is the one sitting in Abuja conniving with them to destroy this party.
“As the national chairman of the party if you think anything is wrong with the party you call the chairman and ask what is happening in your State, he never did that, he never consulted anybody.
“He sat in Abuja with the Secretary of the party to say they are setting up a caretaker committee when I have a tenure that the life span is on.
“When my tenure is finished I will step aside and if anyone defeats me in the Congress well and good but that process was not followed.
“The house that was built over the years you just want to destroy and you want us to keep quiet. No, we will not”, he vowed.
