PDP Suspends Ondo Party Chairman Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended the party’s state chairman in Ondo State, Fatai Adams, over alleged anti-party activities.

The chairman’s suspension was announced by the party’s working committee in a statement on Tuesday which was jointly signed by the state deputy chairman, Tola Alabere; state secretary, Oluseye Olujimi; organising secretary, Dare Akinwale; as well as six other members of the committee.

According to the statement, Mr Fatai was suspended because of his engagement in activities that were targeted to disrupt the progress of the party.

“Pursuant to Section 58(1) (b, c, f, h, and j) of the PDP Constitution as amended in 2017, the State Working Committee has approved the suspension of the State Chairman. Mr. Fatai Adams. for anti-party activities and for engaging in activities likely to bring the party to disrepute,” the statement partly quoted by Channel TV said.

It continued: “He is accordingly advised to appear before the State Disciplinary Committee of the party for further interrogations within the next one week.

“The party wishes to state emphatically that it will deal decisively with any incursion by the ruling party. the APC, into its ranks.”

This suspension came barely a week after the death of the former governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu which was followed by the swearing-in of his deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

SaharaReporters broke Akeredolu’s death last Wednesday and reported the swearing-in ceremony of Aiyedatiwa on that same day.

Mr Fatai Adams’ suspension may also be connected to the preparation of the party towards the state forthcoming gubernatorial election in 2024.

A chieftain of the party, Hon. Adeolu Akinwumi had called on the PDP in the state to pick their candidate from the Ondo South senatorial district.

Akinwumi, who said it is the turn of the zone to produce Akeredolu’s successor, noted that the South Senatorial district must have the right of first refusal before other aspirants from other zones show interest in the governorship seat.
