Fraudulent Tenant, Accomplice Arrested For Using AIG FCID’s Name To Extort Landlord.
LAGOS-A tenant and his accomplice have been arrested by detectives attached to the FCID Annex Alagbo, Ikoyi Lagos for allegedly using the AIG, Idowu Owohunwa’s name to extort his landlord. Sources said the tenant and his accomplice identified as Messrs Henry Nwabueze and Francis had demanded N7 million naira from his landlord, Engineer Alphonso Oham on the premise he would used the amount to settle the AIG; prompting a petition to the effect to the office of the AIG. This resulted to their arrest and confession of culpability.It was learnt Mr. Nwabueze had been leaving in Engineer Oham’ house and hadn’t paid his rent since 2018 adding that, that resulted to legal action. However, it was gathered that in one of the court sittings, Mr. Francis who accompanied his friend Mr. Nwabueze to the court convinced Engineer Oham on the need to settle out of court. An agreement was riched and Mr. Nwabueze informed that he had incurred cost to the tune of N2million naira and demanded that it be paid him. The sum N1.5 million was reportedly paid by Engineer Oham to him. However, the case took a twisted form when demands for more money especially, to settle the AIG FCID came up.Public relations officer of the Unit, ASP Aminat Mayegun who comfirmed the incident in a release said, “Today, we address a troubling case of extortion involving Mr. Henry Nwabueze and the alleged misuse of the AIG FCID Annex office to facilitate his unlawful activities.

The incident came to light following a petition submitted by Lyke Agwu and Co. Law Firm on behalf of Engineer Alphonso Oham against Mr. Henry Nwabueze, a tenant occupying a flat in Thomas Estate, Ajah, since 2018.Mr. Nwabueze after making a confessional statement affirm to have defaulted on his rent payments since 2018 till date , leading to legal proceedings initiated at the Tinubu Magistrate Court on February 6th, 2024. During a court session at the Igbosere Magistrate Court, Mr. Nwabueze, accompanied by an individual identified as Mr. Francis, coerced Engineer Oham into settling the matter out of court. Subsequently, Mr. Nwabueze demanded a sum of two million naira to resolve the issue, citing purported costs incurred.In a disconcerting turn of events, investigation revealed that Mr. Nwabueze had orchestrated a scheme to extract funds under false pretence. Following an initial payment of one million five hundred thousand naira to a certain Umar Bintu Fatima account, purportedly for expenses. “Mr. Nwabueze requested an additional two million naira from Engineer Oham. Upon further investigation, it became apparent that Mr. Nwabueze had expanded his extortion efforts, demanding an exorbitant sum of seven million naira to purportedly settle matters with the AIG FCID Annex Alagbon Ikoyi Lagos . This escalation prompted Engineer Oham to do a petition which was submitted following the fraudulent nature of Mr. Nwabueze’s actions.In the light of the petition and the compelling evidence provided, detectives from the FCID Annex acted promptly, resulting in the apprehension of Mr. Henry Nwabueze. This arrest signifies a notable advancement in the fight against extortion and the preservation of our legal system’s integrity. Both suspects will now be arraigned in court. The AIG commends the diligent efforts of FCID Annex detectives in promptly addressing a matter involving exploitative practices. We urge the public to remain vigilant against such activities and sternly warn unscrupulous individuals who attempt to involve the leadership of the FCID Annex Lagos or the NPF at large in corrupt practices, the AIG FCID Annex warns all individuals to desist from such acts or face the wrath of the law. We reaffirm our zero-tolerance policy against corruption and our commitment to professionalism as envisioned by the IGP. We urge citizens of Nigeria to collectively stand against extortion in all its forms and safeguard the integrity of our society.”
