Ejes Gist News has obtained a video report from Delta State-owned TV station DRTV, revealing the harrowing ordeal faced by the indigenes of Okuama Community. Though their identities were not disclosed, they provided a detailed account of the tragic events. When the Nigerian Army came to our community on March 14, 2024, we welcomed them. They said they wanted to tour the community, and we showed them around, offering kolanuts, drinks, and money as a gesture of hospitality. We engaged in peace talks, but suddenly, they turned violent after our refusal for them to take the community leaders away. They opened fire, resulting in multiple casualties,” recounted one resident.

The situation escalated further when the army returned with reinforcements, including gunboats, the next day. They allegedly unleashed a barrage of gunfire, resulting in the death of over 50 people and the complete destruction of the community on March 15.

In response to these atrocities, Okuama Community has called upon the State Government, Nigeria Police, Federal Government, and the media to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
