Former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Deacon Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, has paid glowing tribute to former Governor Chief James Onanefe Ibori, describing him as a "pillar of modern Delta" and a major force in the state’s political evolution.
In a heartfelt birthday message to the former governor, Otuaro celebrated Ibori’s enduring legacy, commending his visionary leadership and foundational role in the transformation of Delta State.
“Chief Ibori is not just a former governor; he is a true statesman and political icon whose tenure laid the groundwork for what we now know as modern Delta,” Otuaro said.
He praised Ibori’s bold leadership and foresight, noting that his administration set the stage for the infrastructural, political, and institutional growth that successive governments have built upon.
Otuaro, who served as Deputy Governor from 2015 to 2023, also expressed personal gratitude to Ibori for being a guiding influence in his political journey, describing him as a father figure, mentor, and source of inspiration.
“Your life and legacy continue to shape the political consciousness of our people. You remain a mentor to many of us who have walked the path of leadership because you showed the way,” he added.
The former deputy governor wished Ibori good health, long life, and continued relevance as an elder statesman, praying for more years of peace and fulfillment.
Chief Ibori, who governed Delta State from 1999 to 2007, is widely regarded as a foundational figure in the state’s modern political and developmental trajectory.
