A group of women in a community in Douala, Cameroon, have drawn public attention after confronting and beating a man accused of repeatedly abusing his wife.
The incident occurred in the Bojongo area of Bonabéri after neighbours said they could no longer tolerate the man’s violent behaviour. According to residents, the man had a long history of physically abusing his wife, and several previous complaints had allegedly produced no lasting solution.
Eyewitnesses reported that the women gathered after hearing the woman’s cries during another alleged attack. Videos shared widely on social media show the women surrounding the man and physically confronting him. At one point, the man attempted to resist by holding a machete, but he was quickly disarmed by members of the community. He later fled the scene to escape further attacks.
The video sparked strong reactions online. Many social media users praised the women for standing up against domestic violence and protecting one of their own.
