Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has signaled his readiness to contest in the 2027 presidential election, stating that he would not hesitate to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if given the mandate by his party.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Fayose revealed that his ambition depends largely on the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that the party’s convention remains the legitimate platform for selecting its presidential candidate.
He emphasized that he would respect the outcome of the party’s internal process, regardless of whether he emerges as the flag bearer or not, adding that unity within the party is crucial ahead of the election.
Fayose noted that anyone aspiring to lead Nigeria must be well-prepared, possess nationwide support, and demonstrate the ability to connect with citizens across different regions.
“I would love to contest against BAT; if the PDP picks me as flag bearer, I will do my best,” he said.
His comments come amid early political positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, as key figures across party lines begin to signal interest and test their chances within their respective political platforms.
