Asaba – As 2027 Elections draw close, chances of aspirants seeking tickets of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Delta State following a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja challenging the party membership of key political figures in the state.
The suit, instituted by Alex Akporute, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party from Ughelli North Local Government Area, is questioning the defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and others into the APC.
Akporute, in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2601/2025, is seeking judicial interpretation on the legality of the defections and whether the affected political actors validly became members of the APC in line with constitutional and electoral provisions.
Listed as defendants in the matter are Governor Oborevwori, the PDP, APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the Delta State Attorney-General.
Findings indicate that the pending litigation has triggered anxiety among APC stakeholders in Delta State, particularly aspirants eyeing party tickets ahead of forthcoming elections, amid fears that any adverse ruling may invalidate party structures or candidacies built on the disputed memberships.
Political observers noted that the outcome of the case could reshape the political landscape in Delta State, especially if the court rules that the defections did not comply with laid down legal procedures.
Meanwhile, party leaders and aspirants are said to be closely monitoring proceedings at the Abuja court, as internal consultations continue within the APC over possible implications of the suit on the party’s preparations.
