Police in Uganda have released photo of a 45-year-old woman accused of forcing her eight-year-old stepson to swallow dozens of sewing needles and other harmful objects.
According to reports, the suspect identified as Juliet Tushabeomwe from Mitooma District in western Uganda appeared before the Mitooma Chief Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, May 7, while carrying a baby.
Sources indicate that the woman was charged with aggravated torture after investigators alleged that she forced the child to swallow metallic objects and plastic fragments over a period of two weeks.
The suspect denied the charges before the court and was later remanded in prison until June 14, when the case will be mentioned again.
The disturbing incident came to light after the boy began complaining of severe abdominal pain. His aunt reportedly became concerned about his condition and rushed him to hospital for medical examination.
Doctors later discovered dozens of sewing needles and other objects inside the child’s body, shocking both medical staff and residents.
The boy is currently admitted at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he is receiving specialised treatment and undergoing procedures to remove the objects.
