Nigerian Army Lieutenant Killed in Sokoto Terrorist Ambush Weeks Before His Wedding

Lieutenant Isma’il Abdullahi Chafe of the 248 Recce Battalion, Illela Barracks, has reportedly been killed in a suspected ambush by Lakurawa terrorists in Sokoto State.

The officer, who was said to be preparing for his wedding scheduled to take place on June 13, was reportedly among soldiers killed during the attack late on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

Several posts circulating on X, formerly known as Twitter, alleged that the officer died while on active duty during the deadly assault, with some users accusing the military authorities of withholding official details about the incident.

One X user, Umar Mollahlee (@Mollahlee7), who described the deceased officer as “my brother,” claimed that he “was killed yesterday in an ambush in Sokoto.”

He added that efforts to obtain official clarification on the incident had so far been unsuccessful, alleging that “the military are not saying anything about it” and suggesting that the attack “will not make it to the news.”

The post quickly gained traction, triggering emotional reactions and calls for transparency from military authorities.

Another user, Zaffine (@MANSURSADIQ01), described the deceased as a close relative and friend, writing a tribute that read: “Innalillahi wainna ilaihirrajiun while am struggling to accept the reality of the lose I announce to you the Death of my dearest uncle, a mutual friend LUITENANT AI CHAFE. Just few days away from your marriage bro you are no more.”

Similarly, another X user, sir_hukuma (@AhmadUba01), mourned the reported death of the officer, describing him as a “brother” who “paid the ultimate price during an ambush,” while offering prayers for his forgiveness and eternal rest
