The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime with the arrest of two suspected armed robbers and the recovery of a pump-action gun, a live cartridge, and other dangerous exhibits.
The suspects were apprehended on May 27, 2026, during a targeted stop-and-search operation carried out by operatives of the Department of Operations (DOPS) Buffalo Team attached to the Second Niger Bridge.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, the operatives intercepted an unregistered blue Hijet Cargo mini bus travelling from Anambra State into Delta State. During the operation, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly attempted to prevent officers from conducting a search and reportedly threatened to record the officers if the search continued.
Despite the intimidation attempt, the police operatives remained professional and proceeded with a thorough search of the vehicle. The search led to the recovery of a pump-action gun loaded with one live cartridge, as well as two daggers concealed inside the vehicle.
The suspects were identified as 25-year-old Ugo Chukwu Kendirim and 27-year-old Odo Jude. Both men were immediately arrested and taken into police custody for further investigation.
Police authorities disclosed that preliminary investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the weapons and to establish any possible connection to criminal activities within or outside the state.
Commending the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and proactive crime prevention strategies.
The Police Commissioner further assured residents that the Command remains determined to deny criminal elements any operational space in Delta State through sustained security operations and enhanced surveillance across strategic locations.
