The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a father and his son among five suspects in a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations carried out across different parts of the state, leading to the recovery of four firearms and a stolen Tecno Android phone valued at ₦180,000.
The operations, which were conducted by operatives attached to different police divisions in Ogun State, also led to the recovery of one live cartridge as security agencies intensify efforts to combat violent crimes, cultism, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi.
According to Babaseyi, operatives attached to the Afon Division arrested a father and his son identified as Fatai Adegbola and Waliu Adegbola, aged 23, following a report of stealing received by the police on May 22, 2026, at about 7:30pm.
Police said investigations revealed that Waliu Adegbola allegedly stole a Tecno Android phone worth ₦180,000 from a residential apartment on May 8, 2026.
The statement noted that acting on credible intelligence, police operatives swiftly tracked the suspect and recovered the stolen mobile phone.
The police further disclosed that a discreet investigation later led officers to the suspects’ residence where a search was conducted after obtaining a valid search warrant.During the search operation, officers reportedly recovered a locally made pistol and a Dane gun allegedly hidden inside the premises.
“The suspects are in custody, while investigation is ongoing to determine their full involvement and possible accomplices,” the statement said.In another operation, operatives attached to the Ilisan Remo Division recovered a locally fabricated pistol with one live cartridge during a routine patrol around Ilisan Remo Roundabout on May 27, 2026, at about 7:30am.
According to the police, the firearm was discovered abandoned at the location and was immediately secured by the patrol team.The police added that the recovered exhibit had been deposited at the division’s armoury for safe custody pending further investigation aimed at tracing the origin and ownership of the weapon.
Similarly, operatives of the Ode Remo Division arrested a 25-year-old suspect identified as Inioluwa Adesanya in connection with the theft of a dane gun belonging to a resident of Ode Remo.
Police spokesperson revealed that the suspect gained access to the complainant’s residence under the pretext of being a carpenter’s assistant engaged for renovation work before allegedly stealing the firearm.During interrogation, Adesanya allegedly confessed to the crime and further admitted being a member of the notorious Aye confraternity.
The suspect also reportedly told investigators that the Dane gun had been modified in a way that made it easy to conceal.“The recovered Dane gun has been secured as exhibit, while the suspect remains in custody pending transfer to SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and prosecution,” Babaseyi stated.
The Ogun State Police Command disclosed that all the cases had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for what he described as professionalism, swift response, and effective intelligence-led policing.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustained crackdowns against violent crimes, cult-related activities, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms across the state.
“The Command remains resolute in ensuring the safety of lives and property through proactive and intelligence-driven policing,” he added.
The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest police station or security agency
