Nigerian billionaire businessman Keji Giwa has sparked widespread reactions online after making a series of controversial remarks about politics, business, and governance in Nigeria.
Speaking in a video that has since gone viral, Giwa defended his support for Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that politics plays a crucial role in the success of businesses operating in the country.
According to the real estate mogul, entrepreneurs who fail to recognise the connection between politics and business success in Nigeria are setting themselves up for failure.
Responding to critics who have labelled him a traitor for backing Tinubu, the businessman questioned what they expected him to do, insisting that openly opposing a powerful political figure could jeopardise everything he has worked hard to build.
“A lot of people are angry that I support Tinubu and call me a traitor. What exactly do you want me to do? Do you want me to join you and point fingers at the very person who can snap a finger and everything I have worked for is gone?” he said.
Giwa further stated that his primary concern is protecting his business interests and providing for his family, adding that he is not particularly concerned about whether the country’s situation improves or not.
The billionaire businessman added that he does not care whether Nigeria improves because he is doing well as an individual. He uttered that he is banking on Nigeria not getting better.
In another startling remark, he claimed he had already accepted the possibility of ending up in hell if it exists, saying there are certain things he has done that could warrant such a fate.
The billionaire also revealed a strict workplace policy within his company, claiming that any employee who says “God will provide” after making a mistake will face immediate dismissal.
In his words, “Anybody doing business in Nigeria, who does not think that politics is part and parcel of their success in doing business in Nigeria, has no business doing business in Nigeria. A lot of people are angry that, oh, he is supporting Tinubu, he is a traitor, what do you want me to do?
What exactly do you want me to do? You want me to join you and point the finger at the very person who can snap a finger, and everything I have worked hard for is gone?
Are you gonna feed me after that? Are you going to take care of my children? Are you going to send my children to private school? Whether Nigeria gets better or not, I am perfectly okay; in fact, I am banking on it not getting better.
Your prayer is different from my prayer. I have come to the acceptance that I am going to hell if it exists. I have no doubt about that because there are things that I do that warrant hellfire.
One thing I have as a general rule in my company, if you make a mistake of saying God will provide, I will sack you, instantly.”
His comments have since generated intense debate on social media, with many Nigerians expressing mixed reactions to his views on politics, religion, and the relationship between power and business in the country.
