Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Monday visited the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as investigations into allegations of financial misappropriation during his time in office continue.
Sources within the anti-graft agency said the visit was linked to the ongoing probe of Okowa’s administration between 2015 and 2023.
The former governor was previously arrested by the EFCC in November 2024 over allegations involving the diversion of about N1.3 trillion in public funds.
He was also accused of using state resources to acquire properties in Asaba and Abuja.
Reacting to the allegations after his arrest, Okowa maintained that all government funds under his administration were properly utilized.
He insisted he had nothing to fear from any investigation, stressing that his government worked within available resources to deliver development projects and improve the welfare of the people.
Okowa served as Governor of Delta State from 2015 to 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He later became the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general election alongside Atiku Abubakar.
In April 2025, he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other political stakeholders in the state
