DJ Switch, the disc jockey, has tackled Remi Tinubu, Nigeriaโs first lady, following comments she made about small-scale food businesses.
During a recent interview, Tinubu suggested that micro-enterprises such as selling akara (bean cakes), roasted corn, and kuli kuli (peanut snacks) require minimal startup capital.
The first lady also emphasised that the government is providing grants rather than loans to support such ventures.
โWeโre trying to give hope, and to start Akara business doesnโt take a lot of money. To start roasting corn, or somebody even said kuli kuli doesnโt take much. We didnโt give them a loan; we gave it to them as a grant,โ she said.
DJ Switch, born Obianuju Udeh, responded via her Instagram stories, criticising what she described as a shortsighted approach to economic development.
The DJ argued that the government should be creating opportunities and infrastructure to help citizens thrive in a rapidly advancing technological world.
โWith absolutely no due respect Remi! Thunder fire you! While other nations are creating spaces and infrastructure to develop their people for this rapidly technologically advancing world, you want us to sell kuli kuli?โ she wrote.

DJ Switch has been in the public eye in the past years after she filmed the infamous shooting of unarmed protesters in Lekki on October 20, 2020.
She had also gone into hiding over alleged threats to her life.
