The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called for stronger international support to help Nigeria tackle terrorism and violent extremism as insecurity continues to spread across the country.
Adeboye made the appeal while speaking at the first U.S.-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala held in Washington, D.C.
The programme brought together religious leaders, Nigerian diplomats, human rights advocates, American policymakers, and members of both the Nigerian and American communities.
The cleric said the security crisis in Nigeria has grown beyond the areas that were once known for terrorist attacks, making it a nationwide challenge.
He stated that the situation has become a personal concern for him and many other Nigerians.
According to him, the fight against terrorism now requires stronger cooperation between Nigeria, the United States, and other friendly nations.
He said the growing threat can no longer be handled by local institutions alone and called for greater international assistance to improve the country’s efforts against violent groups.
He said: “Terrorism is now at my doorstep. The scale of the challenge has exceeded the capacity of local institutions acting alone. Let the US and other Western nations to deepen their support for Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
“The growing insecurity has spread beyond regions, it’s a national challenge that requires greater international collaboration.”
Adeboye attended the event after leading the RCCG Annual Convention in America, which took place in Dallas, Texas.
The award gala was organized by Save Nigeria Group USA in partnership with the U.S.-Nigeria Civil Society Coalition.
It was held at the Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC/U.S. Capitol under the theme, “Thank You, America. Please Do More
