Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has warned that several members of the gang led by suspected kidnap kingpin Abubakar Usman remain at large despite his recent arrest.
Naijapunchnews reports that Gwamnishu, who worked alongside operatives of the Delta State Police Command in facilitating Usman's arrest, said the capture of the notorious suspect was only the beginning of efforts to dismantle the criminal network.
In a post shared on his 𝕏 account on Saturday, the activist cautioned residents of several Delta communities to remain vigilant, alleging that the remaining gang members are still hiding in forests and are fully armed.
According to him, intelligence available to security operatives indicates that the fleeing suspects are in possession of firearms and ammunition and could be planning to regroup for further kidnapping operations.
Gwamnishu also alleged that the suspected criminals have adopted a new strategy by disguising themselves as cattle herders in an attempt to evade detection by security agencies.
He urged residents not to ignore suspicious movements involving unfamiliar herders or groups moving through their communities with cattle.
"While the arrest of Abubakar Usman is a significant breakthrough, members of his gang are still at large.
"Intelligence suggests they remain armed with guns and ammunition and may attempt to regroup and plan further kidnapping activities."
The activist specifically advised residents of Ogwashi-Uku, Ubulu-Unor, Ubulu-Uku, Igbodo, Ute-Ogbeje, and Obior to exercise heightened vigilance due to the reported presence of the fleeing gang members in the area.
He further stated:
"Residents of Ogwashi-Uku, Ubulu-Unor, Ubulu-Uku, Igbodo, Ute-Ogbeje, and Obior are advised to remain vigilant and security conscious.
"The remaining gang members disguised themselves as cow herders. They move with cows."
Gwamnishu called on members of the public to cooperate closely with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities or movements without delay.
He stressed that prompt intelligence from residents could play a vital role in preventing further attacks and helping security forces apprehend the remaining suspects.
"If you notice any suspicious movement or unusual activity, promptly report it to the nearest security agency. Public vigilance and timely information are essential in keeping our communities safe."
His warning comes amid ongoing security operations aimed at tracking down the remaining members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate. Authorities are yet to officially respond to Gwamnishu's latest claims, but security agencies have continued efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across Delta State.
