Activist Omoyele Sowore has criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid less than 24 hours after being declared the winner of the governorship election.
Sowore made the remarks in a post on his official X handle on Monday, August 17, 2026, while questioning the deaths reportedly recorded during the violence that preceded and accompanied the Osun governorship election.
The activist alleged that nearly 50 people were killed in the violence and questioned why political actors had not publicly addressed the deaths or demanded accountability.
“These evil people had to sacrifice close to 50 lives in violence before and during the Osun election, all just to prove that ‘agreement is agreement,’” Sowore wrote.
He also condemned Adeleke’s decision to support Tinubu’s re-election, alleging that the governor’s endorsement was influenced by their shared Yoruba identity.
“And when I said Adeleke has nothing upstairs, it took him less than 24 hours after INEC declared him the winner to prove that. He had to announce that he was supporting Tinubu re-election because Tinubu is a Yoruba man,” he wrote.
Sowore further demanded answers over the reported deaths, asking who was responsible for the violence and whether any investigation had been launched.
“Who killed them? Who ordered or enabled the violence? Who is investigating their deaths? Where is the justice for their families?” he asked.
He concluded his post by describing those responsible as “wicked people.”
