As part of his commitment to community development and efforts to end the prolonged power outage in Okpete Community, Udu Local Government Area, the Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Community Development, Olorogun Oscar Ishaka, has donated a brand new 500KVA transformer to the community.
Olorogun Oscar, while presenting the transformer to the leadership of the community, said the gesture was driven by his genuine desire to see massive development in Opete and to promote the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
For over two years, residents of Okpete Community have been without public power supply due to a faulty transformer. Community members said the situation had slowed development and crippled businesses in the area.
There was wide jubilation on Tuesday night at about 10pm when indigenes sighted the transformer being conveyed into the community on a low-loader.
Presenting the transformer, Olorogun Oscar, who also holds the traditional title of Okoke of Udu Kingdom, said the power situation in Okpete had been a major source of concern to him. He disclosed that he personally purchased the transformer to help the community leadership address the outage.
“The light situation in Okpete has been a major source of concern to me. That is why I decided to personally purchase this 500KVA transformer to assist the leadership in addressing the prolonged power outage we have experienced for over two years. I urge you to guard this facility jealously against vandalism.”
Olorogun Oscar who was also A former President of Okpete Community, urged the leadership to protect the facility against vandalism and assured that he would continue to contribute meaningfully to the development of the community.
He also called for peace and unity among all indigenes of Okpete, stressing that collective effort was needed to drive development.
“Let us embrace peace and work together for the development of our community. I also commend Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his developmental strides in Okpete, especially the Opete Road project.”
The SSA commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his visible developmental strides in Okpete, particularly the construction of Okpete Road, and assured the Governor of the community’s unflinching support, including 100% votes for all APC candidates in the forthcoming general elections.

In separate interviews, the President of Okpete Community, Comrade Sunny Jivwie, and his Vice, Prince Ojays Fuludu, described the donation as a “rescue mission.” They said the suffering of the people had finally come to an end and lauded Olorogun Oscar for his passion for community development.
They also appreciated Governor Oborevwori for appointing one of their own, noting that it had enabled him to contribute directly to the growth of Okpete. They pledged to deliver overwhelming votes for the All Progressives Congress in the next elections.

Some traders and artisans who spoke to newsmen lamented the hardship caused by the two-year blackout. They expressed optimism that economic activities would improve significantly once the transformer is installed.
The event ended with a prayer session led by members of the Okpete Christian Movement, led by Apostle Fred Kator, who committed the power situation and the new transformer into God’s hands.
