The journey toward a more prosperous and unified Nigeria reached a significant milestone on September 24, 2026, as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) officially commissioned its new Campaign Headquarters and Secretariat in Asaba, Delta State. Leading the ceremony was the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, whose arrival transformed the state capital into a vibrant hub of hope and political renewal. Supported by prominent national figures, including Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei and the NDC Delta State governorship candidate Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, the event underscored a growing collective resolve to strengthen Nigeria's democratic fabric ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing an enthusiastic gathering of citizens and party representatives, Peter Obi delivered a message rooted in practical governance, economic resilience, and deep compassion. He emphasized that true national progress cannot be measured by abstract economic indices or ledger entries, but by the tangible well-being of the human being.
"Our objective is to build a society where governance serves the people, not the other way around," Obi stated, reflecting the timeless principle that actions speak louder than words. He observed that you cannot feed a family on promises, reaffirming his commitment to structural reforms that stimulate local productivity, curb inflation, and restore the purchasing power of ordinary citizens. Looking closely at the challenges confronting the youth, Obi spoke passionately about creating an environment where young Nigerians can thrive at home, reminding the audience that there is no place like home and that the country’s greatest export should be its products, not its finest minds.
Taking the podium, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege reflected on the evolving political landscape with a message of strategic collaboration. Recalling the unique dynamics of the 2023 electoral cycle, where Obi secured widespread support across Delta State despite lacking an established grassroots party structure at the time, Omo-Agege noted that this new alignment creates a formidable path forward.
"If history could be made under those constraints," Omo-Agege remarked, "consider what can be accomplished now that we stand shoulder to shoulder." His insights illustrated the proverb that unity is strength and that many hands make light work.
He emphasized that this alliance goes beyond mere electoral calculation; it is a deliberate effort to provide the stable legislative support and executive synergy required to enact lasting national policies.
The commissioning also served as a platform for regional leaders to outline their vision for sub-national growth.
Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei and Deacon Chris Iyovwaye described the Asaba secretariat as a strategic hub for policy design and community engagement under the "Reset Delta" initiative.
Their speeches highlighted a shared determination to replace political friction with constructive governance.
The gathering demonstrated that when leaders align under a shared national vision, birds of a feather flock together, fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and long-term planning rather than short-term political competition.
As reported by national media,
the opening of the Asaba Secretariat represents the initial phase of a structured nationwide rollout. With the party currently finalizing its Presidential Campaign Council alongside running mate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the NDC is positioning itself as a disciplined, policy-driven alternative.
By establishing its foundations early, the leadership acts on the wisdom that the early bird catches the worm, preparing a comprehensive blueprint to address Nigeria's complex socio-economic realities with patience, diplomacy, and enduring patriotism.
