Shock In Minna As Man Publicly Divorces Wife At Police Station After Her Arrest In Hotel Raid.

Tension ran high at a police station in Minna over the weekend as a man publicly ended his marriage to his wife moments after she was arrested during a police crackdown on suspected criminal hideouts.

The dramatic incident occurred after a joint security raid on several hotels in the Niger State capital, part of an ongoing effort to dismantle hubs believed to be frequented by sara-suka gang members and drug traffickers. The operation followed a directive from the state’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, to curb increasing youth violence and attacks on innocent residents.

According to a security official who spoke to Daily Trust under the condition of anonymity, the woman was among several individuals rounded up during the raid. Her marital status only came to light when the police began contacting the families of the detained suspects.

To our surprise, a man showed up and claimed one of the arrested women was his wife,” the officer said. “Right there at the station, he declared he was divorcing her—saying the three words used to initiate a final separation in their tradition.”

The officer added that the police were still profiling suspects and had not yet conducted full investigations when the husband made his declaration.

“We didn’t even know she was married or what took her to the hotel. The husband didn’t wait for an explanation—he immediately pronounced the divorce and walked away,” the source added.

The incident has since sparked mixed reactions in the community, with some expressing shock over the husband's swift decision and others pointing to the need for thorough investigations before passing judgment.

Meanwhile, police authorities continue to process those arrested in the operation, assuring the public that due diligence will be followed in identifying innocent persons from suspected criminal elements.
