A peaceful protester at Abraka Community, Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State, Omena Ibokpo on Tuesday said soldiers shot him and seriously injured him in the face.
Ibokpo who spoke exclusively with The-News Parrot Online Newspaper/TV Correspondent on telephone said,"There's a big hole in my face as I speak with you."
He said he is still at the hospital receiving medical treatment at the time of this report.
It would be recalled that soldiers allegedly shot at peaceful protesters protesting against incessant kidnappings and killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Abraka Community yesterday.
Ibokpo who spoke with excruciating pains said he was one of the protesters that staged the protest. He said it was not with the butt of the gun that the soldiers used but bullets to injure.
He said he left the venue of the protest to a motor park with the intention to travel to Benin-City, Edo State to attend to some business activities.
According to him, while he was at the motor park, he saw some of his friends and he came out and exchanged pleasantries with them.
He explained that this was after the Student Union Government, SUG had left the venue just as he told them(friends) he won't be available for the protest the next day with an advice to wait until government's action on the matter.
He said he also told them that if nothing is heard from the government, the can continue with the protest.
He said, when he was about to return back to the motor park, the soldiers stormed the area and began to shoot sporadically at the protesters.
Ibokpo said while he was still making his way back to the park, other passengers and friends began to there's blood in his face and when he checked, it was a big hole caused by the bullets of the soldiers.
Ibokpo also condemned the shootings of the protesters including himself by the soldiers just as he called on the international human right community, the international court of justice, lawyers and journalists, the Nigerian Government to critically investigate the matter and bring the soldiers and their sponsors to book.
"They must not go unpunished. Government should do something in this matter by investigation."
