The Delta State Government has advocated the statutory inclusion of women in the leadership of community development associations in the state.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Princess Pat Ajudua, made the call in Asaba, at an Enlightenment Campaign on the Delta State Regulation of Community Development Association Law of 2021.
While stating that the essence is to ensure inclusivity in the operation of CDAs in localities, the commissioner said her office had invited the President Generals, Secretary Generals and Women representatives, to sensitize the community leaders on key aspects of the State Community Development Association Law of 2021.
She emphasised the need for community development associations to include women in their leadership structure and to abide by the Community Development Association Law.
The Guest Speaker at the enlightenment campaign, Mrs Juliet Ojefia, pointed out that all community associations must be registered with the Ministry of Women Affairs Community and Social Development, with their community constitution.
Mrs. Ojefia, who is the Director in the state Ministry of Justice, noted that if anyone has an issue in his or her community concerning the implementation of the law, the first place they should go to is the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development.
Some issues discussed at the sensitization program include conflicts between community associations and traditional rulers, discrepancies in registration between the ministry and the Corporate Affairs Commission and the inclusion of women in community leadership.
