Seyi Tinubu, son of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, allegedly funded payments to UK-based Nigerians to assemble a supportive crowd of All Progressives Congress (APC) members during his father’s recent state visit.
Several videos of evidence, shared by social media commentator Emir Sirdam on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, show Nigerians reportedly lining the streets in the UK, singing the pro-Tinubu “Mandate” song while receiving cash payments.
Sirdam, in the video, criticised the Nigerian diaspora for participating in what he called a “culture of sycophancy.” He said, “Those are the highest set of sycophants, the most wicked set of people you can ever see… You escape home, go to a viable environment, and you support the disaster from afar.”
According to an anonymous source, individuals were reportedly paid £500 on one day and £200 the next to participate in the street mobilisation. The payments were allegedly collected alongside branded t-shirts and other paraphernalia.
Sirdam described the incident as a reflection of “the bribery culture of the team of Tinubu’s government,” alleging that such practices are central to how the Tinubu political network operates.
“It is actually what they do. It is how he is. This is who he is. That’s why he buys the masses’ voice over,” Sirdam said.
He further criticised the government’s domestic record, citing rising school fees, stalled infrastructure projects, and high insecurity:
“The economy is in shambles. Security is at an all-time high. There is nothing this cycle has done better than past governments. The only thing you can point to is a coastal road that is still less than 10% completed.”
The video includes footage of crowds on streets in the UK, reportedly receiving instructions and cash. Sirdam said the scenes illustrated the lengths to which political actors allegedly go to create public displays of support abroad.
