Popular Nigerian media influencer Scott Iguma has been remanded in prison custody by the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikoyi. The court issued the order on Thursday afternoon , following Iguma’s recent arrest and detention over allegations he made against real estate company PWAN .
Iguma was arrested on Wednesday and held at the Panti Police Station after he accused PWAN of defrauding multiple customers .
The influencer claimed that the company sold receipts instead of actual land ,resulting in over 130 petitions beingsubmitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) .
In a video shared on Instagram, Nigerian singer Kokopee revealed the latest development, stating that Iguma had been remanded in prison until Monday .
“I’m here in Ikoyi. Sadly, Scott has been remanded till Monday. He has been remanded for fighting for people,” Kokopee said. “You have a problem with the way he has done it? Did he kill someone? Did he commit a crime? In Lagos, I thought they said defamation is not a crime?”
Earlier this week, Iguma had made multiple posts on Instagram , alleging serious misconduct by PWAN:
“PWAN sells receipts for customers instead of land. I was at the EFCC again yesterday to submit another 25 petitions against PWAN,” he wrote. “We now have a total of 130 petitions from customers… and more victims keep reaching out daily.”
Iguma also alleged that the owner of PWAN uses influential police officers to intimidate victims and suppress their complaints.
While defamation has been decriminalized in some parts of Nigeria, the legal ambiguity in Lagos State continues to raise questions, especially when cases involving public interest are involved.
The remand order has sparked outrage on social media , with many Nigerians questioning whether Iguma’s arrest is an attempt to silence whistleblowers who speak out against alleged corporate fraud.
Scott Iguma is expected to remain in custody until Monday , pending further court proceedings. Meanwhile, public pressure continues to mount on law enforcement and judicial authorities to ensure transparency and fairness in the case
