ASABA— Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday presented five brand-new operational vehicles, popularly called “Green Marias,” to the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The handover took place at Government House, Asaba. Governor Oborevwori was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme.
Speaking at the event, the governor said efficient correctional service depends on strong logistics and mobility.
“These operational vehicles will enhance the day-to-day activities of officers, improve response capacity, and strengthen supervision and coordination,” he said.
“By equipping the Command with the tools it needs to perform optimally, we are reinforcing our commitment to a more efficient justice and security system in Delta State.”
Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to support all security and justice institutions under the fourth pillar of the MORE Agenda: Enhanced Peace and Security.
“While the Nigerian Correctional Service is a federal institution, its role is critical to the safety, security, and well-being of our people. That is why we will continue to partner with federal security agencies. A secure and peaceful Delta remains the foundation for sustainable development and shared prosperity,” he added.
He also urged the State Controller and officers to maintain the vehicles properly and ensure they are used solely for their intended purpose, “with the highest standards of professionalism and accountability.”
Earlier, the Controller-General of Correctional Services, represented by the Controller of Corrections, Delta State Command, Chuke Idoko, thanked the governor and the Delta State Government for the donation. He assured that the vehicles would be used for the purpose they were donated.
