Human rights activist and investigative journalist, Omoyele Sowore, has leveled fresh corruption allegations against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, linking him to multi-million-dollar property acquisitions in the United States and a newly acquired parcel of land in Abuja reportedly worth ₦8 billion.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), Sowore alleged that Wike had secretly acquired four properties in Florida, later transferring them to his children at token amounts of $10 and $100 each.
He accused the minister of misleading Nigerians by publicly denying ownership of any foreign property. He said: “The minister himself had lied on TV that he didn’t have any properties in the U.S., and the only property he has was a property donated to his wife by her mother’s father or daughter—I don’t know which one. But we found out there were four properties in the name of his wife that were then donated. Listen to this: they don’t donate properties worth millions at $10 per property to their children. So you buy a property with 2 million dollars and give it to your kids; one was given for $100.”
“So that’s where we caught him. We know Nigeria’s system is too weak to deal with those things, but honestly, the little I know about law, the territorial jurisdiction for that crime is Florida. It’s in Florida. We have written a letter out there to ensure an investigation commences immediately to unravel how money got into the U.S. to buy these properties. There are millions of dollars at times where people agreed that the government couldn’t even afford clean water, good schools, and hospitals.”
“So before we get back to us, we also intend on pursuing the Nigerian side of things, but still working on those. But I want to thank Nigerians in their large numbers who have provided information. This is the first time that we found sources for finding information on a crime committed.
People were sending information. We found hotels in Rivers—multi-billion naira hotels, hospitals, houses, lands in Abuja. There was land where we heard that he paid 8 billion nairas in cash to buy a piece of land in the River Park Estates.”
“So all these things are not going to go, even if the President of Nigeria refuses or EFCC that has an ego that now tied his eyes. If they cannot do anything, people in Nigeria will do something about this because it’s our resources. We’re still holding… Who is Lere Olayinka? When we want to talk about serious things, don’t mention people whose names I don’t know. You understand?”
