The Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, has alleged that he received death threats from suspected Fulani herdsmen who, according to him, vowed to kill him after allegedly killing nine of his relatives.
In a statement shared on his X account on Friday and addressed “To the World,” Dachomo claimed the threats were delivered through letters written in both Hausa and English. He said copies of the letters had already been submitted to security agencies for investigation.
According to the cleric, the letters warned that he would soon be attacked and killed.
“A few days ago, Fulani herdsmen sent a threatening letter to me and members of my church. The letter was written in both Hausa and English, and its message was terrifying. They vowed to attack me and kill me soon, just as they killed nine of my relatives,” he wrote.
Despite the alleged threats, Dachomo said he remains unshaken, insisting that his life is in God’s hands. Citing Psalm 118:6, he declared that he would not live in fear because he believes God is his protector.
The COCIN leader said the violence has deeply affected him personally, recalling the pain of burying loved ones and comforting families devastated by attacks.
He questioned why he had become a target, suggesting that his outspoken advocacy for widows, orphans, and persecuted Christians in Nigeria may have drawn the attention of those threatening him.
“Is my crime that I speak for widows who have no voice? Is my crime that I cry for orphaned children whose parents were murdered? Is my crime that I tell the stories of persecuted Christians in Nigeria so the world will not forget them?” he asked.
Dachomo vowed not to back down despite the threats, insisting that he would continue speaking out for victims of violence.
“I did not choose this path because it is safe. I chose it because truth must never bow before terror. They may threaten my life, but they cannot silence the truth. They may kill the messenger, but they cannot kill the message,” he stated, while also quoting John 15:20 to emphasize that Christians should expect persecution.
The cleric appealed to the international community to pay greater attention to what he described as the continued persecution of Christians in Nigeria. He urged people around the world to remember widows, orphans, and innocent victims of violence, while calling for prayers, justice, and lasting peace.
He further stated that if anything were to happen to him, he wanted the world to remember that he had never taken up arms.
“My only weapon was the truth. My only mission was to defend the persecuted. My only desire was to let the world know that the blood of innocent people cries out before God,” he said.
Concluding his message with 2 Timothy 4:7, Dachomo prayed for strength for persecuted believers, comfort for grieving families, and justice for communities affected by violence.
The latest statement comes months after the outspoken cleric accused the Nigerian government and some influential elites of complicity in the country’s worsening insecurity. During a March interview with News Central, Dachomo alleged that certain government officials sponsor criminal activities and facilitate the integration of “repentant” terrorists into the nation’s security agencies. He also accused authorities of ignoring widespread violence while benefiting from systemic corruption.
The allegations made by Reverend Dachomo regarding the death threats, the killing of his relatives, and government complicity have not been independently verified, and Nigerian security agencies have not publicly responded to his latest claims.
