Senior citizens have been advised to slash their expenses and leverage their established network to survive the lingering economic turmoil.
The keynote speaker at the event Yomi Babasola gave this advice during the 2024 reunion forum of the 1989 Business Administration of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, (UNN) held on the 30 November 2024 at Ikeja, Lagos which attracted dignitaries across Nigeria and beyond.
Yomi Babasola, who is a human capital development and management expert, in his lecture themed "Forging ahead in such a time as this,” had urged all participants present to slash their expenses, insisting that it is much easier to cut expenses than to crave for more money.
He said, “The seasons have finally changed; it is our responsibility to change along with it. We are used to difficulty already. The seasons of life are climatic in nature, and the best way is to look for how to adjust. We need some little adjustment".
“As businesses are running down, our strategy will determine how well we will survive. The best way to forge ahead is to network. The essence of a relationship is mutual benefit and being open to opportunities".
"Relationships are the currency the rich and the mighty spend. Elites ruling today, their strength lies in networking. They have what we call social capital".
On his part, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Effiong Bassey, reiterates the need to support one another collectively, saying, “Welfare of our members and the Alma mater cannot be overemphasized."
