The growing agitation for fairness, political inclusion, and democratic renewal in Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency took a dramatic national dimension today the 12th of May, 2026 as over 5,000 concerned citizens from Patani and Bomadi Local Government Areas of Delta State converged on the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja in a massive peaceful protest demanding exit of Nicholas Mutu from the House of Representatives after 27 unproductive years.
The protest, which lasted several hours, significantly disrupted activities within and around the APC National Secretariat, bringing movement and commercial activities in the surrounding environment to a temporary standstill as demonstrators carried placards, chanted solidarity songs, and called on the national leadership of the party to uphold the principles of fairness, equity, democratic participation, and political inclusion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The protesters described the prolonged occupation of the position by one individual as unhealthy for democratic expansion, leadership succession, and broader political participation within the constituency. According to the demonstrators, democracy was never intended to function as a permanent political entitlement for one individual while other qualified and capable citizens remain excluded from representation for decades.
The protesters insisted that the agitation currently sweeping across Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency is not rooted in hatred or personal hostility toward Honourable Nicholas Mutu, but rather in the legitimate democratic desire for leadership reset, political space expansion, generational inclusion, and fair rotational representation between Bomadi and Patani Local Government Areas.
They argued that after almost three decades of uninterrupted representation, the constituency should ordinarily have witnessed stronger federal presence, transformative infrastructure, broader political empowerment, and significant developmental interventions commensurate with the strategic influence associated with such prolonged legislative seniority.
Particularly concerning to many protesters, according to statements made during the demonstration, is the continued environmental and ecological vulnerability facing several communities within the constituency, including Honourable Nicholas Mutu’s Akugbene community, which remains under severe threat from coastal and environmental erosion despite years of federal representation and strategic committee influence connected to Niger Delta affairs.
The protesters further stated that while political experience and legislative seniority are valuable assets, such experience must ultimately translate into measurable impact, visible constituency advancement, and broader democratic inclusion. They stressed that the people of Bomadi/Patani are increasingly weary of what they described as prolonged political stagnation without corresponding transformational development.
Many of the demonstrators carried placards bearing inscriptions such as:

“No Office Should Be Occupied Forever”
“Allow Democracy to Breathe in Bomadi/Patani”
Addressing journalists during the protest, several stakeholders emphasized that the movement represents a growing democratic consciousness among the people and should not be dismissed as ordinary political opposition. According to them, the agitation reflects deep concerns about inclusion, fairness, leadership succession, and the future stability of the constituency.
The protesters therefore called on the national leadership of the APC, the Delta State Government, party stakeholders, and democratic institutions to listen carefully to the voice of the people and ensure that the 2027 electoral process in Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency remains open, fair, transparent, and free from undue political patronage or imposition.
They warned that ignoring the growing public sentiment within the constituency could further deepen political dissatisfaction and weaken public confidence in democratic participation.
The protest ended peacefully with demonstrators reaffirming their commitment to lawful democratic engagement, peaceful civic participation, and continued advocacy for fairness, equity, political inclusion, and democratic renewal in Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency.
