Eleven people have been arrested following an intelligence-led security operation at Kromase, near Nkwanta in Ghana’s Oti Region.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, 2026, by a joint team from the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service as part of efforts to strengthen security and identify activities considered potential threats to peace in the area.
According to information released by the Ghana Armed Forces, the operation involved a cordon-and-search exercise in the community. The team was led by Combat Team Commander Major Muktar Saani.
The exercise resulted in the arrest of 11 individuals, who have since been taken into custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
The suspects have been identified as Benjamin Nyame, 41; Kofi Sakyi, 60; James Yentumi, 70; Donkor Benyingi, 49; Kofi Ofori, 56; Kwasi Christian, 47; Kelvin Agyei, 31; Kwame Asare Yentumi, 35; Mensah Nyimfor, 55; Geoffrey Okuigye, 53; Nelson Kolali, 17; and another individual identified as Ntrubo.
During searches conducted as part of the operation, security personnel reportedly recovered several security-related items from rooms occupied by some of the suspects. These included a firearm, ammunition, body armour, an ammunition belt and a police uniform.
The recovery of a police uniform has particularly raised questions about its intended use and the circumstances under which it came into the possession of the individuals involved. However, authorities have not yet publicly established why the items were being kept at the location.
The suspects and the recovered items were subsequently transported to the operational base, where the individuals remain in custody while investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the items and determine whether the suspects have any connection to activities that could threaten security in the area.
The operation forms part of broader security efforts in the Nkwanta area, where security agencies have continued to conduct operations aimed at maintaining peace and preventing activities that could undermine public safety.
Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations before determining the next steps in the case. The arrests do not by themselves establish criminal liability, and the suspects are entitled to due process as investigations continue.
The latest operation also highlights the role of joint security operations in responding to intelligence and addressing potential security concerns in communities.
