‎‎‎2 Female Passenger Raped After Being Robbed Of Their Cellphone & Cash By Notorious Armed Hitchhiker.

‎In the rural area of Mavela, Ndwedwe, an armed hitch-hiker allegedly robbed and raped two female passengers during a regular early-morning trip through KwaZulu-Natal’s northern corridor. The incident occurred just after 06:00, when a male driver was reportedly taking two female passengers from Verulam to Ndwedwe. The motorist stopped and offered to pick up a man and two ladies who were hitch-hiking; they were supposedly drunk.

‎A seemingly altruistic deed would quickly devolve into a brutal crime. Mavela was the final destination for the two female hitch-hikers. Nonetheless, the guy hitch-hiker asked to be driven farther along the road. A terrifying turn of events occurred just afterwards. According to the allegations, the accused pulled a gun and demanded that the driver go a dirt route. The thief allegedly stole a Samsung mobile and an undisclosed sum of money from the driver after they hit a dead end.

‎The man in the driver’s white Suzuki Dzire was then told to get out of the cars and run. In spite of the scary experience, he was able to flee unharmed and get assistance from members of the community who called the police. For the two female passengers left behind, what came next was an even more terrifying nightmare. According to the suspect, he or she dragged the two women down a steep bank into a nearby river. He allegedly raped both victims after stealing their smartphones from them at that location.

‎The assailant allegedly hid in the thick underbrush after the attack to avoid quick apprehension. Members of the Ndwedwe SAPS and Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) together immediately began a joint search operation. Responders launched a thorough ground search across the tough terrain even though the driver could not identify the precise whereabouts of his passengers. The two battered ladies were found about a kilometre from the main road, hidden in some underbrush, after hours of searching.

‎The victims were evacuated and given medical attention and trauma treatment when emergency services were dispatched. A manhunt is underway for the individual wanted in connection with three separate crimes: rape, carjacking, and armed robbery. The authorities have issued a warning that a dangerous person is still on the loose and have asked that drivers be extremely careful when picking up hitch-hikers.

‎Rural KwaZulu-Natal residents are understandably worried about their safety on the roads and the prevalence of violent crime in the area; as a result, community leaders have called for more patrols and enhanced attention.
