Former Anambra State Governor and NDC presidential candidate in the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has donated ₦10 million to College of Nursing Sciences, Oluyoro, Ibadan, in support of training of nurses and healthcare professionals.
Obi made the donation on Wednesday after attending the 50th/15th Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church. He proceeded to the institution where he interacted with the management and students.
Speaking during the visit, Obi said education remains “one of the strongest foundations for building a better nation,” particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare.
“The training of competent healthcare professionals is essential to improving the quality of care and strengthening our national development,” he said.
The donation, he noted, was in fulfilment of his earlier commitment to continually support the college.
“This is part of my continued commitment to investing in education and supporting initiatives that contribute to Nigeria’s future,” Obi said.
He urged the students to take their studies seriously, describing nurses as occupying “a vital place in the healthcare system.”
“Their skills, compassion, and dedication are needed not only in Nigeria but across the world. I urged them to pursue excellence, uphold the highest standards of professionalism, and become worthy ambassadors of our country,” he added.
Concluding, Obi said: “A new Nigeria is possible.”
The College of Nursing Sciences, Oluyoro, is one of the oldest nursing institutions in Nigeria and plays a key role in training mid-level healthcare workers for health sectors.
