The rumors of an impending arrest have circulated since July 2024, coinciding with the rise of allegations involving a so-called plot orchestrated by figures close to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu. El-Rufai’s response was pointed, suggesting that the alleged plot aimed to imprison him in a dungeon within the NSA’s office.
