A 47-year-old father of five, Idris Clement, a popular refrigerator and air conditioner technician, has been brutally murdered by suspected armed robbers in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday around 1:00 a.m. in the Shagari axis of Akure South Local Government Area, when three suspected robbers invaded the community, attacking residents and carting away valuables.
According to family accounts, the robbers had already attacked two houses in the area before forcing their way into Clement’s family compound. The deceased reportedly confronted one of the intruders to protect his family, unaware that the others were heavily armed.
“They attacked him with axes and cutlasses before one of them brought out a gun and shot him,” his son, AbdulFatai Clement, said. “The robbers fled immediately after he collapsed. We rushed him to the hospital, but he had lost so much blood. The doctors later confirmed him dead.”
The killing has sparked outrage among residents of the area. The deceased’s family has called on security agencies to arrest and prosecute all those connected to the crime.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command said one suspect has been arrested in connection with the robbery and murder.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, stated that the suspect was apprehended by security operatives and is currently assisting investigators.
