Comrade Matthew Umueruno Unyove has been elected new Chairman of the NUJ, Isoko Correspondents’ Chapel, succeeding Comrade Michael Ilaya after the completion of his two successful terms.
The Chairman of the electoral committee for the NUJ, Isoko Correspondent’s Chapel’s election, Comrade Solomon Akora declared Comrade Matthew Unyove as the new chairman of he Chapel following his unopposed run in the Chapel’s August 30, 2026 election.
Comrade Akora also declared Comrade Edede Jonadab Omoavowere as Vice-Chairman, Comrade Omoevah Blessing Ajirioghene as Secretary, Comrade Kelvin Ohoror as Assistant Secretary, and Comrade Aziano Ekemena Ogheneruhro as Auditor for also running unopposed.

Comrade Churchill Oyowe, Chairman of NUJ, Delta State Council officially inaugurated the new executive team following their swearing-in by Acting Secretary of NUJ, Delta State Council, Comrade Josephine Omodior.
While congratulating Comrade Mathew Unyove and his incoming executive team, Oyowe urged them to build on their predecessors’ achievements as a cohesive unit.
He noted that the Isoko chapel remains a vital pillar in the growth of the NUJ Delta State Council.
He urged the new executive team to drive innovative programmes and activities to boost the Isoko Correspondents’ Chapel’s public profile and strengthen public trust, affirming the NUJ, Delta State Council’s full support for the chapel.

In his inaugural address, Comrade Matthew Unyove expressed gratitude to members of the Isoko Correspondents’ Chapel for electing him chairman. He pledged to lead with honesty and dignity, focusing on developing the chapel and strengthening unity among its members.
He called for members’ full support, emphasizing that collaboration and teamwork would be key to achieving major milestones and elevating the Chapel’s profile both within the Isoko region and beyond.
Comrade Uyonve commended the Delta State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, and his team members, Comrade Josephine Omodior, and Comrade Celestine Afokobah for their exceptional dedication to the union advancement, praising their unmatched punctuality and commitment to union affairs as rare virtue.
He praised Comrade Emmanuel Ekebe’s contributions to the Isoko Correspondents’ Chapel, describing his advice as a wellspring of wisdom that leadership routinely draws upon to navigate early hurdles and keep moving forward.

Reflecting on his time in office, outgoing Chairman Comrade Michael Ilaya characterized his tenure as an eventful, hard-fought journey. Despite facing some hurdles, he proudly pointed to major milestones, most notably establishing the Isoko Nation online newspaper.
He expressed deep gratitude to the chapel members for their constant support, emphasizing that his administration’s achievements would not have been possible without their full cooperation.
Pledging his continued support for the chapel’s growth, he assured the incoming leadership that he remains readily available to offer guidance whenever needed.
He wished the incoming leadership a successful and productive term.
