Chris Ngige, a former minister, had been arraigned on an eight-count charge of alleged corrupt practices but pleaded not guilty.
Justice Mariam Hassan of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Gwarinpa has ordered that a former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, continue to enjoy the administrative bail granted him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court, however, ordered that he present a surety who is a director in a Federal Government employment, and who must have landed property.
The surety is expected to deposit documents of his landed property and travel documents with the court pending the finalisation of the retrieval of Ngige’s passport.
The EFCC had granted Ngige bail based on self-recognition and ordered that he present his travel document to the commission as well as one surety.
The former Anambra State governor had been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
The former minister had been arraigned on an eight-count charge of alleged corrupt practices to tune of ₦2.2bn.
According to the charge dated October 31 and filed on December 9 by a team of lawyers, led by Sylvanus Tahir (SAN), Ngige was alleged to have committed the offences while serving as Minister of Labour under the ex-President Muhammadu Buhari. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
