The Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN), Delta State Council, alongside the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Delta State Governor on Community Newspapers, Comrade Prince Joseph Orhomonokpaye, has commended the developmental achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and the Executive Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Olorogun Innocent Esewezie.
The commendation came on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the ACNPN leadership, led by its State Chairman, Comrade Ike Philip Abiagom, to the Oshimili North Council Chairman at his liaison office.
The meeting provided a platform for discussions on governance, grassroots development, media partnership, security, politics, and the role of community newspapers in promoting government policies and programmes.
Speaking during the visit, members of the delegation praised Esewezie’s administration for executing people-oriented projects and implementing policies they said have positively impacted residents across Oshimili North.
Responding, Esewezie appreciated the delegation for the visit and acknowledged the role of community newspapers in promoting grassroots awareness and democratic governance.
He maintained that many of the developmental gains being recorded across the country are linked to the bold economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, which he described as a difficult but necessary decision aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s economy for long-term growth.
The council chairman also highlighted ongoing constitutional and institutional reforms, including moves toward state policing, describing them as strategic steps to strengthen security and deepen good governance.
According to him, the synergy between the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Delta State Government’s M.O.R.E. Agenda has created greater opportunities for local governments to deliver meaningful projects and improve the welfare of citizens.
Earlier, the SSA to the Governor on Community Newspapers, Comrade Prince Joseph Orhomonokpaye, described Esewezie as an accessible, humble, and result-oriented administrator, urging him to sustain the pace of development in Oshimili North.
Also speaking, ACNPN Delta State Chairman, Comrade Ike Philip Abiagom, applauded the council chairman’s performance and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to promoting responsible journalism and ensuring that accurate information on government policies reaches the grassroots.
Abiagom urged the council chairman to continue collaborating with community newspaper publishers, describing them as the closest media bridge between government and the people.
The association also reiterated its support for the programmes of the Tinubu and Oborevwori administrations, pledging to continue sensitising the public on government initiatives while promoting constructive engagement between government and citizens.
Members further expressed their readiness to mobilise support for the re-election of President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori in the 2027 general elections, citing what they described as the developmental achievements of both administrations.
In his closing remarks, Esewezie charged community newspaper publishers to remain objective, professional, and committed to factual and balanced reporting. He stressed the importance of responsible journalism in countering misinformation, promoting public enlightenment, and showcasing developmental projects across Delta State.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, grassroots development, and sustained collaboration with the media in advancing community development.
