There was mild drama in Abuja on Tuesday morning after a female police officer fled a roadside scene when confronted by an Abuja-based musician over claims of extortion.
The incident involved an Abuja-based musician, Trageel Ejembi, popularly known as Trageel, who posted the video of the incident on his Facebook page .
In a video, Trageel alleged that the police officer had demanded ₦17,000 from the driver involved in the incident.
“Police officer asking for 17,000 from an innocent driver, please tag the IG and Nigeria Police Force. She no get tools o,” he wrote.
According to him, he noticed a vehicle moving slowly with a police officer inside and became curious about what was happening.
Speaking in Pidgin English, he questioned the situation, saying, “No be to park the motor? Wetin dem enter inside the motor go do?”
The musician then pulled over, asking the driver to wind down his glass, to ask what offence he ( the driver) had committed. However, as the driver rolled down and tried to speak, ,p the female officer stepped out of the vehicle and walked away from the scene in an apparent attempt to avoid being filmed.
Unwilling to let the matter drop, Trageel followed her while demanding an explanation.
“Madam come, come and explain what his offence is,” he said as the officer moved across the road.
Other officers around also tried to avoid being filmed on camera as they moved away from the scene .
He condemned what he described as harassment of innocent Nigerians by some security operatives.
“All these things must stop. Harassment of innocent Nigerians must stop. You are not a linesman, do the job of a police officer,” he stated.
The musician further insisted on knowing the identity of the officer, adding, “Why is she running? I need to know the name of that officer. If she likes, she should run anywhere.”
As of press time, the Nigeria Police Force was yet to issue an official response to the allegation.
