A petition by the Adamawa Vanguards has ignited public outrage over what it describes as the “blatant injustice” meted out to CSP Ibrahim Sini, a police officer celebrated for rejecting a staggering ₦150 million bribe.
In the petition, signed by Chairman Zidon Love and Co-Chair Engr. Elijah Kwaghe the group called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun (PhD), and retired DIG Hashiru Argungu to launch a transparent investigation and ensure merit-based promotions in the Nigeria Police Force.
Sini, who headed the Cyber Fraud Unit at the Special Fraud Unit in Ikoyi, Lagos, reportedly turned down a ₦150 million bribe during a high-profile investigation, while his colleague, SP Sentome Obi, rejected a separate $100,000 offer.
Obi was rewarded with a special promotion, but Sini was passed over, despite video and photographic evidence of his integrity being widely circulated on social media.
“This officer has demonstrated rare courage and integrity. Yet, despite an Integrity Award from the Inspector General, he has been denied the professional recognition he deserves,” the petition reads.
A former colleague, speaking anonymously for fear of reprisal, said:
“We used to work together at the Special Fraud Unit. He is exceptional and did the right thing by rejecting the bribe.
“But the system has failed to reward him fairly. I can’t speak openly against the organisation, but I’m appealing for justice for my brother.”
The petition, accompanied by photos of Sini’s award ceremony and viral news coverage, questions the criteria for special promotions and urges police authorities to uphold fairness, transparency, and meritocracy.
