Dr Felida Osede Essi, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Isoko Mirror, has called for unity and love among the Isoko people.
In her welcome address at the 20th Anniversary celebration of Isoko Mirror newspaper (published by FONE Media Integrated Ventures) held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Mano Hotel and Suites in Oleh, Delta State, she also urged Isoko politicians and stakeholders to come together for the greater good of the ethnic nationality.
The anniversary celebration, which featured the presentation of awards to deserving individuals, saw Fidelix Mamuzo Umukoro, Advert Manager of The Urhobo Voice newspaper, being honoured as the Best Advert Manager of the Year.
Speaking, Dr Felida Essi emphasised: “The Isoko Nation belongs to all of us. Therefore, we must unite to ensure our Nation takes its rightful place among the ethnic nationalities in Nigeria.” She urged Isoko politicians and stakeholders to set aside political differences and “speak with one voice so that Isoko can truly claim its rightful position.”
Regarding the awards, Dr Essi explained that the honours aim to encourage individuals who have made significant contributions to society to continue their efforts: “The desire to do more will inspire them, so that every discerning mind will recognise the genuineness of their service.”
Mr Fidelix Mamuzo Umukoro, upon receiving the award, praised Dr Felida Osede Essi as an Amazon and a model of womanhood. Represented by veteran media practitioner, Chief Kenneth Young-Emretiyoma, he acknowledged her determination and resilience and congratulated her on achieving two decades of publishing excellence. Umukoro expressed profound gratitude to Isoko Mirror for the honour bestowed upon him, which recognised his “significant contributions to the advancement of The Urhobo Voice newspaper both in Nigeria and abroad.”
Other distinguished Isoko and Urhobo personalities honoured at the ceremony included ace broadcaster Tessy Mukoro, Elder Engr. Napoleon Akpughe, JP, Chief (Dr.) Andrew Oru, Ambassador Mrs Juliet Okeore, Comrade Joseph Evah, Nollywood actor Prince Tony Ogbetere (popularly known as Mudiaga), DCP Joseph Esegine, Hon. Benjamin Ogbalor, Prof. Benjamin Owomano, and Charles Obaro, among others.
The event also marked the launch of Volume 2 of the Isoko Book of Outstanding Personalities, edited by Fidelix Mamuzo Umukoro.
Reviewing the 105-page publication, Dr Isaac Ejebe, FNOA, commended its engaging writing style and concise yet informative biographies. He stated, “What makes the book stand out is its ability to highlight the common traits and characteristics that define these exceptional individuals. Overall, it is a must-read for anyone interested in learning about the lives and achievements of remarkable personalities.”
Delivering a lecture at the event, Pastor Edegware urged the Isoko Nation to partner with Isoko Mirror, local government authorities, oil companies and other relevant bodies to promote greater socio-economic and industrial development. He encouraged the creation of a Steering Committee to drive this vision, declaring, “Isoko needs a winning team that will not take ‘no’ for an answer and will not be discouraged.”
The event was attended by prominent Isoko personalities, religious leaders, professionals, media practitioners, and others, including Mr Godwin Egene, Group News Editor of Thisday Newspaper, Mrs Patricia Awodeha, Mrs Elo Edremoda of The Nation, Kelvin Ohoror, and Mr Chukwuka Nwa Oliseh, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Niger Delta Chronicle.
