The Federal Ministry of Education has ordered the immediate closure of forty-seven (47) Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) across Nigeria following rising security concerns in various parts of the country.
The directive was issued through an official circular dated 21st December 2025 from the Office of the Director, Senior Secondary Education Department, Federal Secretariat, Shehu Shagari Way, Abuja.
According to the letter, addressed to all principals of Federal Unity Colleges, the Honourable Minister of Education approved the closures “sequel to the recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches.”
The circular emphasized that the shutdown takes immediate effect, listing all 47 affected colleges.

This directives follow Gistcore report that Terrorists in the early hours of Friday morning stormed St. Mary’s Papiri Private Catholic Secondary School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, abducting an unspecified number of students and teachers.
The attack comes five days after terrorists stormed the Maga Comprehensive Girls’ Secondary School in Kebbi State, abducting about 25 female students and killing at least one staff member.
A school guard was also injured during the attack, which occurred around 5:52 am.
Parents, guardians, and school authorities are expected to comply immediately, as the circular indicates no delay or phased closure.
