Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has celebrated the graduation of his son, Ariwera Jonathan, from Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom.
A statement issued on behalf of the former president by his media adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, said Ariwera completed his degree after what was described as years of “focus, humility, and discipline.”
“We join our boss, H.E Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR GCON, and his family to celebrate the graduation of his son, Ariwera Jonathan, from Manchester Metropolitan University,” the statement said.
“Throughout his studies, Ariwera demonstrated commendable focus, humility, and discipline, earning his degree through hard work and steady dedication.
We extend our warmest felicitations to the family. We wish Ariwera a future filled with continuous success and impactful achievements.”
Manchester Metropolitan University, founded in 1824, is one of the largest universities in the UK with a student population of more than 38,000. Tuition for international undergraduate students at the institution ranges from about £16,000 to £20,000 per year, depending on the course, equivalent to roughly N30 million to N40 million at current exchange rates.
Goodluck Jonathan, President of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015, since leaving office, has been active in election observation and peace mediation across Africa.
Graduations of children of prominent Nigerian political figures in foreign universities often attract public attention in a country where millions of graduates contend with high youth unemployment, hyper inflation, poor infrastructure, wholesale corruption and millions of out of school children.
There was no immediate information on Ariwera Jonathan’s course of study or his post-graduation plans.
