Rivers State where governance was once synonymous with borrowing, the Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has rewritten the script with uncommon discipline, courage, and results that speaks louder than the noise of detractors.
At a time when many governments mortgage the present to survive, Fubara has chosen prudence over profligacy, vision over vanity. Where others make promises, he delivers silently, steadily, and unmistakably.
Nearly three years into his administration, one fact remain stubborn and undeniable, not a single kobo borrowed from any financial institution to run the state. Not one.
This is not routine governance. This is a fiscal revolution. He has shattered the old order where loans masqueraded as development tools, too often became conduits for personal enrichment, leaving the people to shoulder the burden of repayment.
That era of deception is gone. In its place stands a government that spends wisely, acts decisively, and delivers visibly. And what delivery it is.
Across Rivers State, the evidence is not hidden in reports, it is etched in concrete, steel, and asphalt, tangible proof of a government that understands both purpose and priority. Roads in Port Harcourt, once abandoned to decay are being rehabilitated, resurfaced, and brought alive again.
The 62.6 kilometre Port Harcourt Ring Road is reshaping urban mobility and unlocking the city’s arteries. The ambitious 33.5 kilometre Elele-Umudioga-Egbed-Ubimini-Ikiri-Omoku road is opening up economic corridors. Also, the 12.5 kilometre Trans-Kalabari road is reconnecting long isolated communities, while the Buguma-Abalama-Tema-Degema-Abonemma road is restoring dignity to riverine life.
Add to this, the strategic 6.5 kilometre Aleto-Alesa-Refinery road, crowned with its 200-metre bridge, stands as a symbol of engineering precision and economic lifeline. Same is applicable to the over sixteen years abandoned Emohua-Agba/Ndele-Nmofor-Agba-Ndele road and bridge linking Abua/Odual to Ahoada-East, now a dream come through, reconnecting communities and boosting economic activity.
Worthy of mention, is the iconic new Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, an architectural masterpiece and the very definition of modern governance expressed in concrete and steel. Adjudged as the best in Nigeria, the edifice stands not just as a structure, but as a bold declaration of vision, authority, and purposeful leadership under Fubara.
The historic rebirth of the Rivers State Secretariat is not left out, a project many had long written off as impossible. For over fifty years, it stood as a haunting symbol of neglect by successive administrations. Today, it is been transformed into a beacon of renewal and institutional pride.
The healthcare sector echoes the same story of rebirth; the remodeled Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo, the state-of-the-art General Hospital also in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area and the ongoing Zonal Hospitals in Omoku, Degema amongst other legacy projects nearing completion and already inaugurated. These are not token gestures; they are deliberate investments in human life and dignity. These are not projects on paper. They are bold statements of intent.
All of this, achieved without borrowing. All of this, delivered amid relentless distractions and calculated opposition. Yet Fubara remains unshaken. He has rejected the old culture where borrowing became a ritual, not necessity, where public funds ostensibly meant for development vanished into private pockets, leaving behind debts and decay. In its place, he has installed a system where accountability reigns and results speak.
And beyond infrastructure lies the human touch of his administration. While many states struggle to pay salaries under crushing debt, Rivers State stands tall, meeting its obligations and setting the pace with one of the highest minimum wages in the country. This is leadership that puts people first, not as a slogan, but as a standard.
So, let the critics talk, let the cynics speculate. The truth is louder. Rivers State under Fubara is one that prioritise people, not propaganda, substance, and showmanship. It is not a failing government, but one that is in motion, focused, disciplined, and unrelenting. A government that is building not just for today, but for generations.
Fubara has redrawn the map of governance in Rivers State. Integrity is no longer optional, infrastructure is no longer delayed, progress is no longer promised, it is delivered.
The message to Rivers people is simple and clear. Rally round this uncommon leader. In the face of deliberate attempts to destabilise his administration and distort his achievements, unity becomes not just necessary, but imperative.
