Highway Patrol Intercepts Armed Robber on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

●Pistol Recovered as Accomplices Arrested

Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a locally fabricated pistol along the busy Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, following a routine stop-and-search operation.

According to a press statement released by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the breakthrough occurred when officers attached to the Federal Highway Patrol, acting on intelligence-led policing and credible public cooperation, intercepted a Mazda commercial bus. One of the occupants, a man, Imoleayo Ibrahim, was searched, leading to the discovery of the hidden firearm and his immediate arrest.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the weapon was intended for robbery operations along the expressway. He further implicated two accomplices who were identified as Ibrahim Najeem and Olamilekan who specialize in coordinating and executing such attacks. Acting swiftly on this confession, police operatives apprehended both named suspects, who are now in custody.

Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, praised the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olutunji Rilwan Disu, for his purposeful leadership and policy direction aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness. The Commissioner also commended the diligence of the operatives and the vital role of law-abiding citizens whose cooperation strengthened the operation.

According to the statement, the suspects are undergoing further investigation as efforts intensify to dismantle the criminal network.
