Former Delta State House of Assembly member and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, Hon. Misan Ukubeyinje, Esq, has thrown his full weight behind Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s recent call for the urgent revamp and reactivation of the Warri Port, describing it as a bold and timely intervention in the interest of the national economy.
In a statement personally signed and made available to the press, Hon. Ukubeyinje congratulated Governor Oborevwori for adding his strong voice to the decades-long outcry over the deliberate neglect of ports outside Lagos by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). He noted that the concentration of port activities in Lagos has led to severe congestion, traffic gridlock, inflated haulage costs, and slowed business operations all of which could be mitigated if other ports like Warri, Koko, and Calabar are made fully operational.
According to Hon. Ukubeyinje, “Revamping Warri and Koko ports will not only decongest Lagos but stimulate economic growth across the Niger Delta, create jobs, reduce transportation costs, and open up inland commercial activities. The Federal Government must begin to treat these ports as strategic national assets, not political tokens.”
He further urged the Nigerian Ports Authority and the Federal Government to rise above what he described as “primordial sentiment” and dismantle the monopolistic structure that gives undue advantage to Lagos ports while stifling growth in other regions.
Hon. Ukubeyinje also advised that a sustained campaign and legislative backing be built around the demand to reopen the Warri and Koko ports, urging other leaders in Delta and the South-South to rally behind this call. "If we push collectively, we can be among the first to make this dream a reality one that will benefit not only Delta State but the entire country."
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to policies and campaigns that will drive inclusive development and decentralize Nigeria’s economic infrastructure for the benefit of all citizens.
