Veteran Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has revealed the drastic step she took to preserve her marriage after tying the knot with her husband, Olayiwola Abdulwakilu.
In a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV , the actress disclosed that she deliberately cut off communication with all her colleagues in the Nigerian film industry for over a decade. According to her, the decision was a personal sacrifice aimed at protecting her home and steering clear of the pattern of failed marriages often linked to the entertainment industry.
“I was off the scene for more than ten years, and I apologised to my fans. I held my marriage in high esteem, so I blocked everybody’s contact in the industry,” she explained.
Aiyeola, who relocated to the United States with her husband, noted that her decision was informed by the stereotypes surrounding celebrity marriages and the pressures that come with public life.
“Let’s appreciate our lovers because they caused it. Some of them will say practitioners don’t have stable homes or lives, but they don’t know what happens behind those relationships. So, because I didn’t want my own to be like that, I blocked everyone from the industry for 10 years,” she added.
Now a mother of two boys, the actress says she is fully back and ready to focus on her career. “I unblocked everybody when I finally returned to focus on my career. I have two boys, and I have sacrificed everything for them. They should now allow me to also carve my own career.”
Aiyeola’s return to the screen has been welcomed by fans and colleagues, many of whom commend her for prioritising her family while continuing to pursue her passion on her own terms
