In the face of injustice and corruption in Nigeria’s military, Lance Corporal Martins Idakpini of the Nigerian Army has become a symbol of bravery and integrity.

Idakpini became well-known across the country in 2020 after he released a video that went viral, in which he accused army authorities of neglecting and mismanaging the war against insurgency. The authorities did not like his audacity in speaking up, and he was later imprisoned for three years in what he calls cruel conditions. He alleges that he was shackled, stripped naked, chained on his legs, and detained for 22 days without access to a toilet or other necessities. He refused to resign or take bribes from his superiors in spite of the psychological and physical costs.
His steadfast opposition to injustice and corruption has struck a chord with many Nigerians, who view him as a hero battling for justice and accountability. Idakpini just shared a recent story that highlights his unwavering resolve. He disclosed in an interview with Lucky Udu Experience that he was once more approached in 2023 with an offer of an incredible seven billion naira to quiet him. According to reports, the money was intended to buy him silence and keep him from criticising persistent problems in the Nigerian Army.
